I just had to share this picture from the party on Sunday.

Princess Leia and my Elle.  Dreams do come true!

.

December birthdays get a bad rap.  As of now, Elle doesn’t mind having a birthday ten days before Christmas. She thinks it is neat having so many presents in the same month! I dread the day when she is told that she should feel bad about her birthday being in December. In the back of my mind I think that if it becomes an issue we could celebrate her half birthday, but really I hope it doesn’t come to that. I hope she embraces her birthday and continues to love the date.

This year her actual birthday fell on a Wednesday and we had the grandparents over for Pizza, Yoda Pie and gifts. She scored on the Star Wars gifts for sure! She got a Star Wars DS holder with light saber stylists, a Star Wars Comforter and the Star Wars version of Trouble as well as a Tinker Belle DS game.

Her skating party is this weekend and promises to be an event in itself. Princess Leia is coming to sign autographs and pose for pictures :) I wish I was six again!

Princess Leia is the Best!

Elle’s party is days away.  Any mom who has arranged a birthday party knows how stressful getting everything just right can be.  This is the first (and probably only for  long while) big birthday party we have ever done for Elle.  Her whole class and Daisy Scout Troop are invited on top of our family and extended family.

She is so excited. She choose a skating party, which should be interesting because she and most of her friends have never been roller skating before! My plans are to have the skate guy tighten the wheels so we will have a bunch of little kids walking around in skates.

The theme is of course, Star Wars.  I got a sweet deal at Birthday In a Box through a Zulily voucher last month and we have decorations galore.  Hallmark sent me a free product code in thanks of meeting them at BlogHer10 over the summer and I got the most awesome birthday plates ever!  Look at these babies:

You are jealous aren’t you?  Hallmark has several varieties including holiday themes.  They also gave me a coupon code to share with you guys.  Here is for 30% off at Hallmark.com:  Blogher30 Enjoy and tell me what you bought!

The invitations I found at i Celebration on Etsy.

I went with #2 because it has Princess Leia on it and was pleased that  she also made free Thank You cards.  I printed my prints at Wal-Mart and cut them into really cute book marks. The kids love them, as does Elle and I think they are the cutest invites I’ve ever done.  Of course I didn’t do them, but  I did make the decision to buy and that is what counts!

Rumor is that Princess Leia will make an appearance and no, she will not be wearing the slave outfit.  She will be in a white robe with her hair all bunned-up!  Yeah for my babysitter being such a good sport:)

I will be sure to show you pics from the upcoming event party and you will see my Elle at age SIX!  How did my baby get to be six years old. This is nuts, crazy and amazingly awesome at the same time.

(Disclosure: My Zulily link is an affiliate link and Hallmark gave me $40 credit in merchandise after visiting their booth at BlogHer10 this past summer. )

Elle my Jedi!

Elle is turning six this December and wants a Star Wars party.  I need some ideas to put on a really fun and memorable party without spending hundreds of dollars!

Any ideas?

The cliches are true.  Time does fly. Your kids do grow up to quick.  We moms are a sappy mess when they figure this out.

Eleven years ago today I became a mother. Meg came out grunting and left me quickly to get extra oxygen and didn’t nurse for about four hours.   I was so worried that she wouldn’t nurse, but she latched right on and we nursed for fifteen months, tongue-tie and all. She was a serious, quite baby and a complete joy.  I used to watch her sleep and miss her while she napped.  Oh the joys of the first baby.

Meg is an amazing kid. She is kind and stands up for her beliefs. Of course I’m going to say that as she is mine. But that is what moms do, sing the praises of their babies!  She has taught me so many lessons on life, motherhood and about  people in general.

Bruised and battered, she was still the most beautiful thing I had ever seen!

Always very dramatic!

Wild and free thinking young lady.

Thank you baby! You make us so proud.

Today my third darling girl turned eight years old.  She has been waiting for this day for a while, and now that it is finally here she is all over the place, bouncing around!

Today we had cookies with our scrambled eggs at breakfast and pizza and Yoda pie for lunch. Then it was off to the movies for Enu and Daddy. They saw Shrek while eating popcorn.  It just doesn’t get any better than time alone with Daddy!

Her party is this Saturday.  A Taylor Swift theme birthday party…I’m sure there will be a picture or two worth sharing from that party!

Here is the best photo of the day. Enu with her Yoda pie.  Yoda pie is a mint-chocolate chip ice cream pie with Ande’s candies….it is so named for the simple reason that the first time Grammy made it, it was for a nephew’s Star Wars party!

Mita and Miley

Mita and Miley

I’ve officially earned the Bad Mom of the Year award…and it is only March.  I was just looking through my posts and realized that I did not write about Mita’s birthday.  My second baby in double digits and I did not share this with the world!!!

Celebrating your child’s birthday can be bittersweet as we watch them grow up so fast, and long for them to stop growing, yet we are so proud of what they are doing and who they are becoming.  This is our second birthday with Mita and she has changed so much in the last two years.  She is becoming a young lady with a beautiful smile and a shy heart.  I missed her first eight birthdays, but her Ethiopian mom and dad were there to watch her grow at that time.  Adoption makes your family bigger in so many ways, and I feel a special connection with her Ethiopian parents.  I am honored to have the privilege of watching her ninth and tenth birthday and feel so blessed that she is my girl.

On February 16th Mita turned ten.  There was no school that day and she had a couple of friends over for some fun.  Grammy made her a Miley Cyrus cake (I cringed at the thought, but I have been told not to make everything a battle :))  She got a new BLUE digital camera/MP3 player.  Blue is the best color in the world to my girls right now.  No more pink and princesses for them :(

Seven Years Old and Riding In Style!

Seven Years Old and Riding In Style!

Enu turned SEVEN years old today. She is over the moon with her birthday finally arriving! She woke up mommy at SIX this morning…talk about excited. We had a nice breakfast of cinnamon rolls and fruit and she opened up all the cards that had come in the mail this week. She is rolling in the $$$ and cannot wait to hit a store. I think she will spend all day at Game-Stop trying to figure out what new game to buy for her shiny, new Nintendo DS.

Grammy bought her a new PURPLE bike and Hubby took her riding on Friday. She did over eight miles without complaining. That is amazing and we are sooooooo proud of her.

Grandma got her a PURPLE sleeping bag just perfect for her upcoming camping trip.

Apparently PURPLE is the new PINK.

Please wish Enu a Happy Birthday as she will feel very famous!
