It does have the ability to take pictures but since I don't pay for internet ability I can't get them off the phone. My hubby on the other hand has an iphone (for work) but the whole family loves it! the camera takes pretty good pictures and comes in handy when I forget mine or mine isn;t working properly. the ability to pull up a map has kept us from wandering around lost many times and there are lots of fun games to help pass the time. Plus the number of apps for it is amazing - my favorite is the level! He has had a few problems with it not working the way it should but each time he's taken it to the apple store they have replaced it with a new one at no charge. Enjoy!
